4th of July Week

We had a great, busy and fun 4th of July weekend! Here's what we did:

On Tuesday we went up to Bear Lake for the Rasmussen Family Reunion.  We spent the first afternoon boating with Bennett's parents, playing games on the beach and getting in a vicious water fight, which I happened to win.

That night, we went golfing with Bennett's parents and Tyler and Jessica. Well, they golfed. Being the non-golfer that I am, I volunteered to be the designated driver for the evening.

On the 4th of July we had breakfast with all of the Rasmussens, played a little basketball and rented out the Montpelier bowling alley and where we promptly bowled the afternoon away.

For the reunion, we had a pinewood derby race. Earlier in the week Bennett and I had attempted to create a car, to no avail. It was so pitiful it didn't even make the journey to Bear Lake with us. Instead we thought we'd use one of Bennett's old cars from the glory days: Future Force. Turns out we each needed a car, so Bennett took the adage, "Every man for himself," to heart and claimed Future Force as his own. I was left racing a wood block with four wheels and the words "Fear This" hastily written in permanent marker on the top. Sadly, it was not feared. I soundly took dead last and won a bag of Twizzlers for doing so poorly. I barely beat out my brother-in-law Tyler for last place, so I kindly agreed to split my winnings with him.

The next day we were supposed to go boating, but some rain forced us to tweak our plans. Instead, we went to the Pickleville Playhouse and laughed out guts out at the hilarious performance of The Hanging of Juanito Bandito.

That night we went miniature golfing and went down to the lake to skip a rock or two. We headed home that night so that I could go to the world's most boring social studies training. Boo. Sometimes growing up and getting a real job isn't all it's cracked up to be.

On Friday we headed up to my parent's house in Heber where my family had been all week. We made it just in time to gear up in our country garb and swing on over to the Oakley Rodeo.

On Saturday we hung around the house while the guys all went golfing. This meant I only had to fight off my mom and Allie in holding this little man. I got him to myself for a full hour and a half.  It was pure bliss.

That afternoon everyone went home except for Bennett and I, Mike and Andrea and my mom. We decided to head over to the pool and do a little swimming. Bennett and Mike had eaten lunch while they were golfing so my mom, Andrea and I went to the club house to get something to eat while Mike and Bennett took James to the pool. You tell me...what does it look like when two young, thin, attractive men sit at the poolside with a brand new baby? You nailed it: visitors from San Francisco. It only took 20 judgmental stares and one compliment about how cute their baby was before Mike turned to Bennett with the direct instructions to "Find his mother." Turns out they didn't like people thinking they were gay. They were good sports and let us take a picture of what happened.

Later that night we went to Granny's for dinner and the most delicious shake west of the Mississippi. We then headed over to an outdoor theater in Midway and saw a local production of "Fiddler on the Roof." Despite freezing to death, we loved it!

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July week, too!!
